<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Enabling Efficient Utility Management with GIS Pro’s Enterprise GIS Solution</h2>

<p>Worley engaged GIS Pro to implement a robust GIS system to support the management of the <a href="https://www.aemc.gov.au/energy-system/gas/gas-pipeline-register/wa-esperance-distribution-system"><strong>Esperance Gas Distribution Network</strong></a> in Western Australia. The project required a reliable, user-friendly solution to centralise spatial data, improve field-to-office collaboration, and enhance reporting.</p>

<p>This project highlights how our <strong>Enterprise GIS Solution</strong> provided the tools Worley needed to manage critical infrastructure efficiently.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Background</h2>

<p>The Esperance Gas Distribution Network covers a wide area, supplying natural gas to homes and businesses. Managing this network requires up-to-date spatial data, quick access to asset information, and smooth communication between field teams and office staff.</p>

<p>Worley needed a <strong>scalable and cost effective GIS platform</strong> to manage asset locations, inspections, maintenance, and regulatory reporting. They also required a system flexible enough to support future network expansions.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Solution</h2>

<p>GIS Pro delivered a <strong>fully integrated Enterprise GIS Solution</strong>, tailored to utility management.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1340" height="719" data-id="1527" src="http://51.161.208.234:8080/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/esperance-webmap4.jpg" alt="Utility Management Web map" class="wp-image-1527" srcset="https://www.gispro.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/esperance-webmap4.jpg 1340w, https://www.gispro.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/esperance-webmap4-300x161.jpg 300w, https://www.gispro.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/esperance-webmap4-1024x549.jpg 1024w, https://www.gispro.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/esperance-webmap4-768x412.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1340px) 100vw, 1340px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p>The solution included:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>A <strong>central GIS database</strong> for all asset data.</li>

<li><strong>Field data collection tools</strong>, allowing crews to capture real-time updates directly from site.</li>

<li>A <strong>web mapping portal</strong> for office teams to access live data, perform spatial analysis, and generate reports.</li>

<li><strong>Automated workflows</strong>, reducing manual data handling and ensuring accuracy.</li>
</ul>

<p>This setup ensures all teams work from <strong>the same source of truth</strong>, avoiding data silos and miscommunication.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Benefits for Worley</h2>

<p>With GIS Pro’s solution in place, Worley gained:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Centralised Data Management: All spatial data is stored in one system, accessible to both field and office teams.</li>

<li>Faster Decision-Making: Real-time updates mean asset data is always current.</li>

<li>Streamlined Compliance Reporting: Spatial data can be easily queried and exported for regulatory submissions.</li>

<li>Scalable System: The solution can grow with the network, supporting future needs without major rework.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Results: Numbers Speak for Themselves</h2>

<p>In the <strong>first 10 months</strong> after launch, Worley’s team adopted the platform as a core daily tool.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>2,564 visits</strong> to the system</li>

<li><strong>870</strong> high-quality <strong>maps</strong> printed</li>

<li><strong>2,500 single data edits</strong>, ensuring up-to-date asset records</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Interested in Enhancing Your Utility Management?</h2>

<p>If your business needs better visibility, smoother field operations, and reliable reporting for your asset network, GIS Pro can help.</p>

<p>At <strong>GIS Pro</strong>, we advocate for <strong>open-source GIS solutions</strong>, but we also recognise that some organisations have made <strong>significant investments in ESRI technologies</strong>. We help these clients maximise their <strong>ArcGIS Enterprise</strong> platform to improve their operations.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">GIS Support for API Management (APIM)</h2>

<p>GIS Pro provided <strong>in-house GIS services</strong> to <strong><a href="https://www.apijv.com.au/">API Management (APIM)</a></strong> to develop a <strong>series of web maps</strong> for <strong>infrastructure planning and stakeholder communication</strong>. The maps display <strong>mining operations, roads, pipelines, and utilities</strong>, helping the organisation manage both current infrastructure and <strong>proposed future developments</strong>.</p>

<p><strong>Key Contributions:</strong></p>

<p><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2705.png" alt="✅" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Web Maps Development</strong> – Built interactive <strong>ArcGIS Enterprise</strong> maps to visualise infrastructure projects.<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2705.png" alt="✅" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Data Management</strong> – Structured spatial data for mining, utilities, and transport networks.<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2705.png" alt="✅" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Stakeholder Collaboration</strong> – Enabled <strong>internal and external communication</strong> through improved data sharing.<br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2705.png" alt="✅" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Ongoing GIS Support</strong> – Continued to provide <strong>data updates and new features</strong> for three years.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Overcoming Challenges</h2>

<p>The project involved <strong>large datasets</strong> covering diverse infrastructure types. GIS Pro ensured that <strong>data was efficiently managed</strong>, reducing manual work and improving accuracy. By structuring the data within <strong>ArcGIS Enterprise</strong>, we helped <strong>API</strong> streamline their workflows and enhance collaboration.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Long-Term GIS Partnership</h2>

<p>For three years, <strong>GIS Pro</strong> continued to <strong>support APIM’s GIS requirements</strong>, providing <strong>regular updates and feature enhancements</strong>. This long-term engagement ensured that the organisation could keep its geospatial data current and <strong>effectively communicate with stakeholders</strong>.</p>
