Born from GIS Pro’s Commitment to Smarter Bushfire Assessments

At GIS Pro, mission is to help clients become fully autonomous in managing their spatial data. Over the years, we’ve worked closely with bushfire consultants across Western Australia, supporting them with GIS mapping for Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments.

The Challenge: Producing Maps Was Slowing Down Bushfire Assessments

Through this work, we identified a clear bottleneck in the bushfire assessment process: an excessive amount of time was being spent on GIS map creation, particularly creating BAL contours and preparing site plans.

For many bushfire practitioners, GIS was a necessary but frustrating part of their workflow. Time spent navigating complex software, managing data, and drafting maps took time away from what truly matters, assessing risk, finding solutions, and advising clients.

The Solution: A Practitioner-Focused Mapping Tool

This realisation led to the creation of Bushfire Pro, a purpose-built app that streamlines bushfire mapping and reporting, so practitioners can focus on their expertise rather than wrestling with GIS software.

Built on the GIS expertise of GIS Pro and designed in collaboration with experienced bushfire consultants, Bushfire Pro combines:

Simplified spatial data entry: capture site information directly in easy to use app

Automatic generation of BAL contours: no manual drawing or complex GIS processing required

All layers and information at the practitioner’s fingertips: instantly access site data, aerial imagery, contours, and vegetation mapping in one place

Seamless collaboration: field teams and office staff work on the same project, with real-time updates

Maps printed in seconds, not hours: ready-to-go site plans and BAL maps at the click of a button

Real Results Since Launch

Since launching in 2022, Bushfire Pro has been used for over 3,500 projects in WA and 600 in NSW, making it one of the most trusted tools in the industry.

Powered by GIS Pro

Bushfire Pro is proudly developed, maintained, and continuously improved by GIS Pro. As the creators, we ensure the app stays up to date with evolving bushfire regulations and GIS technology, so practitioners can stay focused on delivering high-quality assessments.

GIS Pro’s Ongoing Support for Open-Source GIS

We firmly believe in the power of open-source for advancing geospatial technology. We take pride in supporting several open-source initiatives in a range of ways:

Financial Backing for QGIS: We provide sustained funding to the QGIS project, helping this awesome open-source GIS software continue to grow and evolve.

MerginMaps Sponsored Features: We’ve also sponsored select features in MerginMaps, helping to enhance its functionality for field data collection and improve user experiences.

Training & Advocacy: Beyond direct funding, we advocate open-source GIS solutions by offering training and best-practice guidance to clients and partners. Our workshops and materials empower users to make the most of QGIS, MerginMaps, and other open-source tools.

By blending financial backing with practical support and user education, we aim to strengthen the open-source GIS ecosystem. Whether it’s minor code enhancements, feature sponsorship, or community advocacy, every effort adds up and helps these projects remain innovative.
