To ensure that future exploration and operational decisions were based on accurate and accessible spatial information, the company required a new GIS system that could consolidate existing datasets and support ongoing data management with minimal overhead.

Solution: A Consolidated GIS System with QGIS

To address this, GIS Pro was engaged to review, redesign, and implement a GIS solution tailored to the company’s exploration workflows.

The solution included:

• Consolidating existing spatial data into a single, structured geodatabase.
• Integrating spatial layers with existing corporate datasets to provide a comprehensive view of exploration data.
• Deploying QGIS as the primary software for geologists, ensuring that spatial data was easily accessible and could be directly utilised in day-to-day workflows.

Fremantle Ports is Western Australia’s largest and busiest general cargo port.

Understanding Trade imports and exports from its very origin to the final destination is key for logistics.

The port envisioned to interactively display trade movements in a new and innovative way to discover insights and engage with its targeted audience.

Solution: Creating an engaging 3D Visualisation for Fremantle Port

GIS Pro mapped trade volumes and rendered them on an impressive, interactive 3D globe.

The visualisation displayed trade flows from each country of origin to their final delivery points across Australia, making it both informative and engaging for users.

Outcome: How 3D Visualisation helped promoting Fremantle Port

The Data Viz was well received and showcased at MIAL Modern Maritime Conference in 2019.

It also contributed Fremantle Ports to winning the ACS Digital Disruptors Gold Awards as part of a broader series of innovation.

Context

A Public Open Space Strategy shapes future developments and guide the management of parks and reserves.

The Town of Port Hedland was looking to develop a network of POS to serve a diverse range of purposes, whilst encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Scope

GIS Pro worked alongside with UDLA to develop Port Hedland’s vision for open space; producing detailed maps and GIS analysis of the current POS provision.

Outcome

The GIS work allowed assessing the proportion of POS in Port Hedland suburbs. This enabled a comparison against the Western Australian Planning Commission policies and contributed to the development of Port Hedland Public Open Space Strategy.

We engaged GIS Pro at the later stages of a complex project. They made themselves immediately available and diligently responded to the challenging technical requirements and time-frames. My only regret was not involving them sooner…they will be a key part of our team going forward.

Deep Yellow Ltd had accumulated a large volume of spatial data over the years. The existing folder structure had grown increasingly difficult to manage, especially as the geology team ramped up their operations.

The company needed to:

• Clean up and reorganise their spatial data warehouse
• Ensure data was equally accessible from both the head office in Perth and the site in Namibia
• Develop an efficient GIS system that could restore trust in the data

Solution: GIS Data Management Solution for Deep Yellow

GIS Pro conducted a full review of the existing spatial data, consolidating it into a central PostGIS database hosted in the cloud.

To further support the geology team, we provided tailored QGIS training; making spatial information more transparent, accessible, and easier to use across the organisation.

Challenge: Planning for Seamless Station Access

PTA’s Station Access Strategies are important for ensuring that METRONET projects integrate well with surrounding communities. These strategies guide how access to future stations can be designed, encouraging people to walk, cycle, take the bus, or get dropped off, while creating accessible, people-friendly transport hubs.

Solution: GIS-powered Accessibility Studies

GIS Pro assisted Flyt in conducting a detailed accessibility studies for 8 stations along the Armadale Line.

This involved a multi-modal access assessment, evaluating how well each station connects to its surrounding area via:

• Walking paths
• Cycling infrastructure
• Bus routes
• Kiss-and-ride (drop-off) zones
• Park-and-ride (driving) facilities

The analysis identified both well-connected areas and gaps or barriers in the transport network that need improvement.

Outcome: Data-Driven Station Access Strategies

The final Station Access Strategy provides PTA and partner agencies with clear, data-driven recommendations to help prioritise future infrastructure upgrades at each station.

As part of this process, GIS Pro produced accurate isochrones, showing the realistic catchment areas for walking, cycling, and other modes of transport to each station. These isochrones provided a visual and analytical foundation for identifying gaps in accessibility and prioritising improvements.

The Long-Term Cycle Network for Perth and Peel represents a shared vision for a safe, accessible, and fully integrated cycling network, connecting key activity centres, local communities, and major employment hubs.

GIS Pro provided specialised GIS expertise to support Flyt in developing the future cycle network for the Department of Transport, working closely with local government authorities, Main Roads WA, the Public Transport Authority, and METRONET.

Solution

GIS Pro deployed a series of interactive web maps, allowing all stakeholders to visualise the proposed network, contribute feedback, and collaboratively shape the final design.

The web maps became a central platform where agencies could:

• Exchange spatial information in real time
• Draw and edit proposed routes directly on the map
• Provide feedback and highlight constraints or opportunities
• Track the evolution of the network design throughout the project lifecycle

This interactive and transparent approach ensured that all parties were actively involved, with decisions supported by clear and accessible spatial data.

Outcome

The high level of stakeholder engagement and extensive use of the web maps led to the successful development of a well-supported, future-proof cycle network vision.

The collaborative planning process enabled local knowledge, technical expertise, and community priorities to be fully captured; resulting in a stronger, more connected network that will support active transport for years to come.
